At Los Olivos Private Rehabilitation Center we understand that, due to the inherent criminality surrounding addiction and alcoholism, many otherwise law abiding individuals find themselves in trouble with the law. We believe that of the 70% of the ex-pat prison population currently incarcerated for drug or alcohol related offenses many would be better off in residential treatment than remanded in custody.
The rates of recidivism (re-offending) remain hopelessly high among untreated addicts and alcoholics but there is hope for those who recover. Ask yourself the following question: Would I have committed the offense were it not for the drink or drugs? Most will answer no. Driven by alcoholism or drug addiction a person may find themselves charged with a number of offenses including:
- Driving under the influence
- Uncharacteristic violence
- Petty theft
- Disorderly conduct
- Domestic Violence
The Spanish justice system is now recognising the benefit of rehabilitating rather than punishing those suffering from dependency but like any bureaucratic system, change is slow. Those seen to be taking positive action to address and rectify such issues are, more often than not, favourably received in the courts. Those who seek and complete treatment are issued sentence reductions, suspended sentences, reduced fines or driving bans and are far less likely to receive custodial sentences.
Working in conjunction with Axiom Legal Services, Los Olivos Private Rehabilitation Center can help. Axiom Legal Services works with sympathetic English speaking lawyers and court approved translators to petition the courts on your behalf to ensure your release into our care. You will be assigned a Case Manager who will make sure reports and paper work are submitted on time, push to speed up the notoriously slow process and personally liaise between legal divisions.
